A Prayer for This Morning
During our time of phone-in devotions this morning I offered this prayer from the Wild Goose Worship Group, associated with the Iona Community in northern Scotland. (The wild goose is a Celtic symbol of the Holy Spirit.) I share this prayer with you and suggest that you read these words slowly, breathing in and breathing out, that they might bring you peace as you move through this overcast, foggy Thursday morning. I also encourage you to join us on the phone any morning, M-F, at 10 a.m. for a short (~ 15 minutes) time of silence and prayer. You need not say a word, if you don't feel moved to do so: just dial 508.924.1769 and enjoy a precious opportunity to center and steep yourself God's loving presence.
O God our Creator
your kindness has brought us
the gift of a new morning.
Help us to leave yesterday,
and not to covet tomorrow
but to accept the uniqueness of today.
By your love
celebrated in your Word,
seen in your Son,
brought near by your Spirit,
take from us what we need to carry no longer,
so that we may be free again
to choose to serve you
and to be served by each other, Amen.
