"Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, 'Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me." Mark 9:36-37
We regard the care and nurture of our children as an essential part of the life of our community. At all parish worship and fellowship events, children are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Every Sunday at 9:00 am, our worship experience is designed and implemented so that children can fully participate and grow in Christ. This Holy Eucharist uses songs that children can sing; a sermon of story and conversation on the floor; and prayers written in simple language; all in about 45 minutes.
Our Nursery is open each Sunday from 9:45 am to 11:45 am for children and infants to 3 years. It is located on the lower level and is easily accessible from the church. It is staffed by a trained and caring employee who has met all child safety caregiver guidelines. Nursery care is also available for various special events and services.
Sunday Children’s Formation
A formation program is offered each week throughout the program year for preschool through 5th grade children. This program begins at 9:50 am and concludes at 10:35 am; as this allows for children to attend the Family Service or join their parents in the Traditional Choral Eucharist Service. When we are in the classrooms on the lower level our teachers use a scripture based curriculum that includes learning through story, art, play and prayer. Once each month the children also come together for music with our Music Director to learn music for worship and play various instruments. Intergenerational learning also happens within this timeframe and these programs are usually offered in each season of the church year. Children are also involved in various social outreach projects of the congregation so that they learn how to put their faith into action. These have included community efforts locally with The Bishop Walker School, St. Philip’s CDC, and the National Center for Children and Families; as well as internationally with our partner church, Buen Pastor in Quito, Ecuador.
Come and join this growing and exciting community of learners.
