Veterans Day

Honoring Our Veterans

On this Veterans Day 2020,
let us pray for those who serve or have served in our nation's Armed Forces:

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Book of Common Prayer, p. 823

For a special Veterans Day greeting from the Rt. Rev. Carl Wright, Bishop Suffragan for the Armed Force and Federal Ministries (and friend of this parish), please visit this link.
This Sunday, November 15, we will honor our Veterans during our 10 a.m. service of Holy Eucharist (via Zoom and Facebook Live). If you or a loved one serves or has served in our nation's Armed Forces, we would be grateful if you would please share names to be included in the Prayers of the People that day via this form by Friday, November 13, 2020 at 12 noon. Thank you!

Consecration Sunday 2020

Please plan to worship with St. Dunstan's via Zoom and Facebook Live this Sunday, November 15 (Consecration Sunday), as we celebrate our blessings and recommit ourselves to the mission of God in this parish for the coming year. This is also the date by which we hope to have received most pledges for 2021. The Vestry and I soon will begin preparing next year's budget and need to have a sense of which ministries we can continue and - God willing - extend, going forward.

We are tremendously grateful for the generosity of all who have pledged your support to St. Dunstan's already. If you have not done so yet, we hope that you will give prayerful consideration to making a financial contribution to the parish for the year ahead. Every pledge, of any amount, is essential to the future health of this congregation.

To pledge online, just click on the campaign logo above to be taken to the digital form. Alternatively, you can download and print this pledge card and return it to the Parish Office (5450 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, 20816) at your earliest convenience.

Thank you, and God bless!

Special Forum this Sunday:
Nourishing Bethesda
Join us this Sunday, November 15, after our 10 a.m. worship (via Zoom) for a special Coffee Hour Forum presented by John Ross, Head of the Men's Ministry at St. John's Norwood.

John and his fellow St. John's parishioners are engaged in an important new ministry, "Nourishing Bethesda," that provides support to folks experiencing food insecurity in our area - and they are inviting us to participate, too! Come meet John online and learn how we might reach out our hands in love to our neighbors in Bethesda and Chevy Chase.

If you have a moment between now and Sunday, please take a look at these recent news stories about "Nourishing Bethesda":

Pre-Order Your Advent Wreath Kit
Advent is the period of watching and waiting that the Church sets aside to prepare for the birth of Jesus. As part of that preparation, many Christians use Advent wreaths to help mark God's time and count down to Christmas. In the past St. Dunstan's has cherished the custom of gathering to make wreaths together.

While we can't do that in person this year, Patty will lead us in a parish-wide Advent Wreath Making social event via Zoom on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at 4:00 pm. You can pre-order your materials for this event by clicking this link: Advent Wreath Order Form. Wreath kits are $25 and will include: 1 straw wreath form, 4 candles, 4 candle holder stakes, ribbon, and greening pins.

Please send all check payments to the St. Dunstan's parish office (5450 Massachusetts Avenue, 20816), or contact Kimberly Matthews at 202.360.0520 to pay by credit card. All orders and payments are due by Friday, November 20, 2020. Kits will be distributed on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28 or will be available for pick-up from the church on Friday, November 27 between 12 and 3 p.m.
