St. Dunstan's
September 29, 2020
From the Rector
Dear friends,
It may seem counterintuitive, but in the midst of this challenging time - locally, nationally, and globally - last night's monthly Vestry meeting was one of the most productive, hopeful events I have attended in some time. I was reminded yet again that this parish is so blessed by its faithful and dedicated lay leadership. I am in awe of their willing spirit, and I am tremendously grateful for their ongoing guidance and support. Rest assured that St. Dunstan's is in very good hands!
Here are a couple of highlights from this month's discussion:
  • We have decided to capitalize on the opportunity to gather outside this fall and will worship in person (with Eucharist) every Sunday as long as the weather cooperates. Services will be live-streamed, with the recording sent out by email later in the day. We also recognize that, for all of its limitations, Zoom does enable folks at home to worship and share fellowship together in a more intimate, personal way. If you would like us to explore the possibility of offering a separate Zoom service on those Sundays when we gather in person, please let me know.
  • We are ready to move ahead with our plans to call a part-time Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries. Thanks to generous designated gifts from a couple of St. Dunstan's families, we now are able to hire someone to serve with us a few hours a week to develop and implement programming for young people and their parents. Having had to put this initiative on hold for several months, I am very excited by this sign of new life in our parish. Please join me in praying that God will raise up just the right person to minister among us. We are in the process of drafting the position description now and soon will have it available for you to share with your networks. If you would be willing to serve on the Search Committee for this important position, please be in touch with me at your earliest convenience. Likewise, if you would like to make a designated gift in support of our programming for Children, Youth, and Families, please contact our Treasurer, Cliff White.
Even as we seem to wander in the wilderness of this pandemic, our God is faithful and is out there ahead of us. Let us move forward together into the future that God has prepared!

The Blessing of the Animals ~ Oct. 4
Blessing of the Animals:
Sunday, October 4,
4 p.m.
(Zoom Blessing: 3 p.m.)
All creatures, great and small, are warmly welcomed to St. Dunstan's Blessing of the Animals next Sunday! We will honor St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his special love of animals, with special prayers for our furry, winged, finned, and scaled family members!
This year, in the interest of safety and social distancing, the Blessing of the Animals will be contactless. Please drive up to the lower circle (by the glass doors) and remain in your car; the Rector will come to you and bless your pet through the car window. Photos of pets and stuffed animals are welcome, too!
For those who would prefer to participate in the Blessing of the Animals virtually, please log on to this Zoom link at 3 p.m.Zoom Blessing of the Animals (Meeting ID: 853 8355 7278). Just hold your pet (or a photo or stuffed animal) up to the screen!
Please join us as we give thanks for the beloved animals in our lives and ask God's blessing on them for the year to come.
