Children's Formation ... Sharing our Faith
This Sunday - February 15 - the children will begin to learn about Joseph - the Old Testament Joseph - who had the coat of many colors and dreamed dreams.  This week the children will hear about his struggles with his brothers and becoming an interpreter of Pharaoh's dreams. On the day of the annual meeting the children will view the movie Prince of Egypt and the following week in classes we will hear more about his reunion with his family and how the Hebrew people came to live in Egypt.
Youth Formation ... Growing our Faith

The Coffee House is open this Sunday, February 15 and our discussions will be on relationships.

Youth Group

Don't miss a great time to be with youth from all over Montgomery County as well as an opportunity to learn about the justice issues surrounding homelessness on March 7-8 as youth gather for the Welcome Table at the Church of the Epiphany in downtown DC.  Details of this event are in the Trailblazer and have been sent via email to youth and parents. The deadline to sign-up is next Sunday.

It isn't too early to be thinking about sending your children or youth to camp this summer. I spent a day at the camp for Middle School students last summer. It is a great facility in southern Maryland and it sure looked like everyone was having a great time, learning and growing in faith and the staff was great. The cost for the week is $575 per camper.  You can register online here.

Junior Camp (Rising 4th -6th graders) - July 26-31, 2015.
Middler Camp (Rising 7th- 9th graders) - August 2-7, 2015

February Outreach:
St. Philips Child Development Center

During the month of February, St. Dunstan's is collecting supplies for St. Philips Child Development Center, which offers quality pre-K and early childhood development for members of the Anacostia community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

More than 70 infants, toddlers and preschoolers are enrolled in the program. St. Philips is one of the few nurturing, safe, dependable infant care programs in Anacostia. They focus on educating the youngest and most vulnerable members of the community. In addition, the program serves the entire family by offering guidance in parenting skills, nutrition, child development and appropriate responsive behavior.

You are welcome to donate the following items to St. Philips Child Development Center:
  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • Mittens
  • Arts and Crafts Materials- Glue Sticks, Play Dough, Markers, Crayons
  • Pencils- "Large Writing Pencils"
  • New or lightly used manipulative toys appropriate for infants or toddlers

Please place items in the basket by the Service Ministry sign in Founder's Hall.

Looking for the Lenten Experience ?

Looking for a Lenten experience?
"Ashes to Go"
As you emerge from the escalator at the Bethesda Metro station during evening rush hour on February 18 you will see a band of folks from St. Dunstan's offering a brief prayer and ashes to anyone who wishes to commemorate the beginning of Lent with this ancient symbol.  This will be the second year that St. Dunstan's will participate in Ashes to Go, bringing ashes to people who might not have the time or inclination to come to a mid-week church service or might have forgotten it is Ash Wednesday.

Last year we decided to give this a try and lo and behold several dozen people saw the "Ashes to Go" sign and approached our group for ashes.  We also handed out a card with some Lenten resources, a prayer, and information about St. Dunstan's.  Many Metro riders were genuinely pleased with the convenience of getting their ashes on the way home from work.

This year, we'd like to involve more St. Dunstan's parishioners in Ashes to Go.  Did you know that there is no rule that only clergy can offer ashes?   Would you like to share in this ministry on Ash Wednesday?  Would you like to hand out prayer/information cards to people who have received ashes?  If so, please get in touch with Jeff or Sue von.  Or maybe you'll be coming up the escalator yourself.
