The Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost

This Morning's Worship

Dear parishioners and friends of St. Dunstan's,

What a delight it was to gather in person and via live-streaming for today's celebration of Holy Eucharist! The weather was absolutely spectacular, and the spirit was high. Special thanks to the Joseph Arkfeld Trio for providing such beautiful, joyful music to help lift our hearts and minds in worship.

The recording of this morning's service may be found here; the bulletin for today's worship is available at this link.

Today also marks the official kickoff of our 2021 Stewardship Campaign, the theme of which this year is "What Can Love Do?" If you were with us on campus today you received a "goody bag" with information about this year's campaign, along with some treats from your Stewardship Committee. If you weren't able to worship in person this morning, be on the lookout for a special delivery in the near future from one of our "Stewardship Elves." Please take a moment to watch a brief (two-minute) video greeting for an explanation of your bag's contents. Simply click on the photo of Stewardship Chair Sue Carroll, below, and you'll be taken to the recording. (If you do not receive a goody bag delivery in the next couple of days and would like one, please email me. We'll be delighted to send one your way!)

Finally, please note that our new schedule of daily prayer - morning and evening, Monday-Friday, with the Church of the Redeemer -begins tomorrow, October 19. See the box below for further details, including how to join us in prayer. This is an exciting new partnership, and I hope that many of you will join us!

Abundant blessings,

The Rev. Patricia Phaneuf Alexander, Rector

Beginning TOMORROW:
Daily Prayer with Redeemer

We are excited to announce a new collaboration between St. Dunstan's and our sister parish, the Church of the Redeemer, which is designed to broaden the reach of both congregations.

Beginning tomorrowOctober 19, the two churches will be combining forces to offer two opportunities for prayer every week day, Monday-Friday. The schedule will be as follows:

  • Each morning at 10 a.m. we will offer a time of intercessory prayer the old-fashioned way...by telephone! No worries about Zoom fatigue: All you need to do is call our dedicated "prayer hotline" (508.924.1769) and either Patty Alexander or Cricket Park will be on to pray with and for you. Please give it a try!

  • As well, you are invited to join friends from St. Dunstan's and Redeemer at 8 p.m. every evening, M-F, for Compline, the "good night prayer" of the Church. These services will be lay-led and will draw on a variety of sources, including our own 1979 Book of Common PrayerA New Zealand Prayer Book, Celtic Compline, and more! (Our own Joey Arkfeld will lead a sung Taizé Compline on Monday evenings.) To join the Zoom, please use this link.

Help Wanted!
Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington Partner Parish Representative

Please consider serving as St. Dunstan’s next Samaritan Ministry Partner Parish Representative! Established in 1986 under the auspices of the Episcopal Church, Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington has a proven track record of transforming the lives of homeless and jobless people in the greater DC area. In the past St. Dunstan’s has played a key role in this work: this year alone, our Outreach Committee has granted SMGW $2,500 in support of their life-changing ministry in our community.

As a Parish Rep, you would represent St. Dunstan's at approximately six partner meetings per year and would help coordinate our participation in SMGW events. This is a meaningful and important ministry, and we hope that you will give prayerful consideration to this opportunity. For more information about Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, please visit their website. To volunteer as Partner Parish Rep or to explore whether this might be your call, please contact Patty Alexander.

Children, Youth, and Families

St. Dunstan's is now accepting applications for a part-time Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, and we need your help to spread the word!

Please share this position description with anyone whom you think might be interested in applying.
