"Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.' Then I said, 'Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.' But the Lord said to me, 'Do not say, "I am only a boy"; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord." Jeremiah 1:4-8
Ministry with Young People
Ministry with those in grades 5 through 12 is primarily a ministry of relationship and mentoring, as young people grow into mature Christians and full participants in the life of St. Dunstan's. Young people are encouraged to take up ministry alongside adults in worship and service - as ushers, readers, Eucharistic ministers, and any other ministry of the church.
St. Dunstan's offers programs that are specifically designed for those in this age group. These programs will include times for fun and fellowship, study and formation, service and outreach, and prayer and worship. There will be events and activities for youth from St. Dunstan's and their friends; as well as events which will involve the larger community, our diocese, our province and even the whole of The Episcopal Church.
This gathering of youth with adult leaders takes place on Wednesday evenings and is a shared program with the Church of the Redeemer in Glen Echo. Redeemer hosts us on 1st Wednesdays and St. Dunstan's hosts this gathering on 3rd Wednesdays.
The evening begins with dinner at 6:00 p.m. followed by a program from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This program is designed to create a safe community for young people to share their life and ask questions about faith and other topics important to them. Each evening includes time for prayer, community building, games, learning about our faith.
P.R.A.Y. (Potomac River Anglican Youth)
This program is a ministry of collaboration between 5 area churches - Church of the Redeemer, Glen Echo; Grace Church, Georgetown; St. David's, DC; St. Patrick's, DC; and St. Dunstan's.
Each month we hold an activity for all youth in grades 5-12 that brings a larger group together to be in community with each other, learn about our faith, service our community, and just have FUN. There is a online sign-up process for each event which may have a registration fee. These events are usually held on Sunday afternoons or evenings.
Please download the calendar of activities for P.R.A.Y. here.
P.R.A.Y. also is offering two summer mission experiences. More information will be available later this fall.
Summer Mission to Haiti June 18-24, 2019 Est. cost $1,500.00 Rising 9-12 grades
Summer Mission to Kentucky June 23-29 Est. cost $600.00 Rising 6-12 grades
Youth are offered the opportunity to enter a program that leads to confirmation at the beginning of their freshman year. The program includes formation classes, retreat opportunities, service experiences and developing a relationship with a mentor. The liturgy of confirmation takes place at the National Cathedral.
Though open to people of all ages, the role of acolyte has traditionally been a ministry for youth. Young people are vital to the worship experience of all as they assist the clergy and other lay leadership in liturgy. This ministry is one of service and dignity through leading processions, assisting with preparing the table for communion, and other duties at special liturgies.
Forms and Registration for Youth Activities
This for is for all youth who are members of the parish. This form must be on file before a young person can participate in youth events that take place away from the campus of St. Dunstan's. Please open the form, complete the information and submit via email to email@example.com or print and mail to Sue at the church.
All youth are encouraged to invite their friends to any event or program with the church. If this event is taking place away from St. Dunstan's campus, the parent/guardian must submit this form to participate for each event.
